Many of the challenges that people face in life are challenges that they know are coming right around the corner. For mothers that choose to go back to work and are part of a family, the challenges that come with being a working mother should be expected to a certain degree. They should be expected insofar as you know that you are going back to work and therefore should plan for the occasion. In order to get you started thinking about the good and bad points about being a working mom, three points are made below.

One of the good points of being a working mom is that you are getting the best of both worlds. Not only are you getting a chance to go back to your job and your friends from work, but you are also getting the chance to raise a family and share a domestic existence with your children and your spouse. Mothers that are able to pull this combo off usually find after the fact that the experiences they got out of it were very rewarding indeed.

On the other hand, a bad point of being a working mom is that you are going to have to put a lot of effort into multiple parts of your life. You are going to have to work harder at work once you get back from your maternity leave and you are going to have to work harder at home because you have children to raise now. In the end, these are not challenges that are altogether insurmountable, but they are definitely challenges that you should attempt to meet head on.

Finally, an ugly point about being a working mom is that discrimination in the workplace is something that you might have to deal with. Certain employers might feel that working mothers would place the company second in all things and therefore might not feel that they are good employees to have around.

Fortunately, discrimination against working mothers is against the law in most western nations, so don’t be afraid to stand up for your rights if you feel that you are the target of such discriminatory action.
