How do you prepare older children for the new baby?

Sibling rivalry results when older children fail to accept the new baby as part of the family. How do you prepare older children for the coming of the new baby to avoid sibling jealousy and rivalry?
When you have nothing to do, anything is worth doing; including surfing the internet.

I think you can place them on your side. You can tell them, "We (and not you or me) will get a new member." It means that the upcoming baby belongs to them and you as a family. Involving them during the preparation is also recommended. For instance when you choose a baby box or baby's clothes.

I agree that getting the older child involved in preparations is the key to having them start to accept the baby early. But whatever happens don't be surprised if there is some jealousy early on. It happens and you just learn to deal with it. Good luck!
