When does a baby start walking?

When does a baby start walking?

Postby alex » Sun Aug 02, 2009 4:42 am

How old a 'normal' baby start walking? I have two nieces and one nephew (I haven't had my own children). The first started walking when she was 14 months old. Her younger sister a bit faster, she learned walking some weeks after her first birthday. The youngest is the faster. He toddled when he was 11 months old.

I know they are smart children but are they 'normal' or a bit slow?

Well, if he was just toddling at 11 years old, that is a little late ;) but I'm sure you meant months. All kids are different and it is dangerous to compare too closely.

Toddling at 11 years old!  My ignorance LOL. Thanks for pointing this out. Yes all children are different. But I always think that the normal age to start walking is one year, more or less. My mom told me that I started walking at 11 years...I mean 11 months old.

My daughter was 7 months yesterday and she isn't even crawling yet although she's close...she scoots. I wonder if she'll be walking by a year maybe they put it together fast after they start getting around.

I've learned not to be too concerned about developmental rates when it comes to crawling, walking, talking, potty training and everything else. My 3-year-old daughter was walking early like 11-months or so but we didn't potty train her until she was 2.5-years-old. It actually worked out perfectly because she was potty trained in less than a week with maybe three accidents since she was potty trained. On the other hand, she is a little slower to talk clearly compared to others her age but I try not to over think it and just keep working with her.
