Ages and developments

Postby summer » Sat Jul 25, 2009 3:33 pm

It's funny to me how quickly we forget when babies are supposed to reach milestones. I can remember reading several baby books and worrying that my daughter wasn't rolling over by 3 months. I was mortified "What was wrong with my child". Of course then many of my friends told me that it just happens when they are ready.

Do you remember the milestones and when they happened? Where the right on time?

My daughter didn't walk without help until she was 14 months. I kept waiting after she turned 1 year old for her to walk. Soon after she walked on her own, I longed for the days that she scooted again. :D

My daughter is only six months old and I already miss when she would just let you hold her. She just wants to go...not that she can yet she is almost sitting up on her own and she doesn't crawl just yet but she is getting very close. She moves her arms and legs and kind of scoots she just hasn't figured out how to do both at the same time yet!

Oh yes! I remember very well that I was so worried when my son was already a year old and he did not yet have any tooth. The pediatrician [EXPLICIT LANGUAGE CENSORED] me that there are cases like that, and she can't do anything about it. She can't force the teeth to erupt... But then, who can? The teeth appeared a few weeks after. :D

With my oldest I was a bit of a milestone freak but with the second and third I learned that babies are gonna do what they're gonna do when they want to do it. lol I hate it when others try to compare their kids to mine. That's so annoying!

I have some that are documented with both children and some that I have fully forgotten. Those people who have full nonstop memory books amaze me, I never found enough time in the day or enough time to stay awake well after they are sleeping to get the books full!!

I only have 1 child and I'm sure I would have been different with a second or third. I now know that not every child hits milestones at the same time.

My daughter was late to get her teeth too. She has gorgeous white teeth now, I think because she was older when her adult teeth came in, she took better care of them.

Don't feel bad cookiemaker...my baby book for her is still in the box unopened. Fortunately for me my mom writes all this stuff down. Like if I tell her oh, she rolled over today she has a notebook she is keeping so eventually I'll get that from her and fill everything out. At the rate I'm going my child will be about 20 when that happens!

I've learned to not become infatuated with milestones especially when they are late. My 3-year-old daughter was an early walker and reached a lot of milestones early but then she is a little slower with talking. She talks but not as clearly as others her age. But she seems more developed in other aspects. I try not to worry about it and just continue to read to her and talk with her and spend as much time with her as she learns.
