How Being a Mother can Mean Headache Pain

Being a mother certainly has it rewards. It also has its challenges. Ever have a toddler who constantly asks questions, but why mommy, why, why, why? Or do you hear your name called so many times you are looking for a place to hide? These can bring on the pain, headache pain.

Statistics say that almost ninety percent of women do suffer from the pain of headaches. In women, the pain seems to be more severe and the reasons are yet to be known. A better understanding of headaches may decrease the recurring headaches of today’s mother.

To pinpoint the cause of headaches, the first step is to eliminate the obvious reasons. A very common cause of headaches is dehydration. Just the intake of a few glasses of water each day will eliminate this problem. On the other hand, if the cause of the headache is psychosomatic, going into a meditative state by slowing the breathing, deep breaths and imagining the pain falling away can be very effective. It can be a challenge for mother to find a little quiet time to recuperate and deal with headache pain but making the effort to set aside a little alone time is a very healthy thing for today’s busy mother.

Sometimes the headache is the result of reducing the intake of caffeine that the body has become accustomed to receiving each day. This is an actual withdrawal symptom and if the pain is too severe, a small cup of coffee will help to ease the discomfort. Instead of cutting off the caffeine suddenly, it might be best to wean yourself off slowly.

A tension headache is most common among today’s mothers. This feels like a band of pressure around your head and can be mild to moderate in intensity. It is believed that this type of pain is caused by neck and muscle pain that is the result of too much stress. Massaging the temples and the base of the neck will help relieve pain. Fresh air or aerobic exercises will raise the level of endorphins in the body and these will help to ease the pain.

Cluster headaches will feel like a stabbing pain around the eyes sockets and can bring on blocked nostrils, teary eyes and can persist for months turning into years. The best recourse is the use of relaxation techniques and periods of meditation or quite times of rest.
